During this very challenging time in our lives, while being attacked by an invisible enemy, the virus, the focus of our government, state, and local leaders has been predominantly about our physical health. At times, they have mandated we wear masks, stay at home, and quarantine. But what about the collateral damage associated with these mandates? While stressed with where all of this will take us, we’re being attacked by another invisible enemy that directly affects our mental and spiritual health. The scriptures below shed Light on this spiritual enemy!
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NLT) says, “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” First Peter 5:8 (NLT) says, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”
Author’s comments: These scriptures sound unreal, not of this world, right? Wrong! It’s real. The word devour is specifically used to help us get a mental picture of a ruthless and brutal enemy. Take a moment to envision a ferocious lion attacking its prey with precision, to overwhelm, conquer, and devour. Now envision Satan attacking us with such precision. Not a pretty sight. He has one mission, and that is to get between us and God. You want proof? Just look around at what’s unfolding before your very eyes. To turn it around, we must make the effort to do what the scriptures say. We must put on every piece of God’s armor. We must make God our number one priority.
