Excerpts from Battle Cry Good vs Evil
Chapter 4: The Mind Is the Battlefield, the Heart Is the Fort
Every day we are challenged by a multitude of spiritually influenced choices that profoundly affect our lives. Good and evil, positive and negative, any way you want to frame it, there are unseen spiritual forces vying for our attention. The spiritual conflict that takes place in the brain during the decision-making process is what makes the mind the battlefield. If our focus becomes about immediate gratification, usually tied to earthly pleasures, Satan will win that battle. If our focus becomes about the Spirit and what God wants for our lives, we will win that battle.
Author’s comments: Who do you think is winning when we decide to steal and kill and destroy? In John 10:10 (NLT) Jesus says, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
Chapter 9: Faith
Life can feel like a roller-coaster ride. At times it can be very scary, at other times it can be fun. When we get scared it’s very important to not lose faith. We must keep the faith to remain spiritually strong. It helps us rise above adversity by knowing in our heart, better times will come. Faith is what we need to stop overthinking, giving way to the heart and what we spiritually feel.
Author’s comments: Stay strong in Spirit, don’t lose heart, God is still on the throne. Have the faith to trust God.
Chapter 12: God Is Real, God Is Alive
We will continue to struggle with our personal thoughts, desires, and feelings. We will continue to fight spiritual battles, as the evil one tries to stifle what we hear from the Holy Spirit. It’s how we respond to these struggles and battles that define who we are in Christ. As followers of Christ, we know God is alive, because the Spirit of God lives in us. We can feel His presence as He influences our mind, touches our heart, and affects our actions.
Author’s comments: Make all decisions based on the influence of the Spirit, not personal feelings. It’s the only path to success. Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT) says, “Trust the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
