Excerpts from Battle Cry Good vs Evil
Chapter 3: Satan, the Enemy
The continued existence of Satan and evil is evident by what we experience in our personal lives, by what we observe in the lives of those closest to us, and by what we witness going on all over the world. One of our biggest mistakes is we marginalize Satan by lightheartedly visualizing this little figure with a pitch fork and a tail. This depiction is false. There’s nothing at all lighthearted about Satan. He’s foul, cruel, and heartless. His spiritual presence is so massive he can patrol the earth and watch everything that’s going on. Job 1:6–7 (NLT) says, “One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the LORD, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. ‘Where have you come from?’ the LORD asked Satan. Satan answered the LORD, ‘I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.’” With this kind of presence, is there any wonder why he is successful at spiritually attacking and keeping us separated from God? He wants to foster hate within each one of us. He wants us to hate ourselves and he wants us to hate one another. The Good News is, God created everything, including Satan. This means God is greater and more powerful than Satan. Since God allows Satan to spiritually attack us, God provides the spiritual strength we need to defend ourselves. In Acts 26:18 (NLT) Jesus says, “To open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.” To have an impact our current situation, we must turn away from darkness and the power of Satan and rely on the power of God, through the strength of the Holy Spirit.
Author’s comments: Where do you draw the line when it comes to your belief of Satan? Do you believe the biblical documentation of Satan is true? Do you believe Satan was once an angel who rebelled against God? Do you believe Satan tempted Eve in the garden? Do you believe God allowed Satan to test Job? Do you believe Satan tempted Jesus? If you believe Satan was present in the past, then why would you not believe he is present today? What do you think happened to him? Where does the Bible tell us he no longer exists? The Truth is he still exists.
Chapter 4: The Mind Is the Battlefield, the Heart Is the Fort
Our history reminds us of the days when it was conquer or be conquered, and only the strong survived. But thanks to God’s love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness, we evolved into God-fearing people. But even as God-fearing people, Satan still successfully influences many of us to act on our desires to conquer. We take things that don’t belong to us. We harm others.
Author’s comments: Our history reveals we have come such a long way. But, if you believe the lies, we haven’t made any progress at all. Who do you think is behind the lies? The Father of Lies! In John 8:44 (NLT) Jesus says, “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
