Excerpts from Battle Cry Good vs Evil
Chapter 13: Knowing God
Proverbs 3:13–18 (NLT) says, “Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.”
Author’s comments: Do you want to be joyful and happy? Do you want something more profitable and precious than silver, gold, or rubies? Do you want long life, riches, and honor? Do you want guidance and satisfaction? This wisdom and understanding can only be obtained by pursing the knowledge readily available from God’s Word.
Chapter 12: God Is Real, God Is Alive
If we want to turn thoughtful doubt into heartfelt belief, we must spend more time in God’s Word. His Word answers questions that enable the Spirit to stir our heart. It develops spiritual strength beyond what we thought capable. This is why it’s vital we not simply read the Bible, but study God’s Word.
Author’s comments: We need to acquire as much knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, as possible. It’s what develops faith. Faith is what we need to stop overthinking, giving way to the heart and what we spiritually feel.
Chapter 18: Fear of the Lord
Proverbs 1:7 (NLT) says, “Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Proverbs 3:7 (NLT) says, “Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.” If we don’t fear the Lord, it shows we lack the wisdom to respect Him and His authority. With no fear, no wisdom, and no respect for God, we are on a path to even more sinful and prideful behavior.
Author’s comments: As we become more mature and look back on our lives, was anyone as wise as they thought they were at the time?
